Product Description

Backpressure steam turbine is a type of steam turbine where the exhaust steam pressure is intentionally maintained above atmospheric pressure.

Unlike condensing turbines (which exhaust steam at low pressure into a condenser), backpressure turbines discharge steam at a higher pressure, allowing the exhaust steam to be reused for process heating or district heating purposes.

This design makes them highly efficient in combined heat and power (CHP) systems.

 

1. Industrial CHP Systems

• Used in factories, refineries, and paper mills to generate electricity while providing steam for processes like distillation, evaporation, or heating.
• Example: A sugar mill uses backpressure turbines to generate power and supply steam for sugar refining.

2. District Heating
• Supplies high-temperature steam or hot water for residential/commercial heating in cities (e.g., Copenhagen's CHP network).
3. Mechanical Drive
• Directly powers pumps, compressors, or fans in industrial settings (e.g., in oil and gas plants)

• Steam Inlet: High-pressure steam from a boiler enters the turbine and expands through a series of nozzles and blades, converting thermal energy into mechanical shaft power (used for generating electricity or driving machinery).

• Exhaust Steam: Instead of releasing low-pressure steam into a condenser, the turbine exhausts steam at a controlled higher pressure (e.g., 0.5-5 bar, depending on the application).
