Condensing Steam Turbine

A condensing steam turbine refers to a turbine where steam, after expanding and doing work inside the turbine, fully enters the condenser to condense into water, except for a small amount of shaft seal leakage.


Working Principle

After steam expands and performs work in the turbine, almost all of it (except for a small amount of shaft seal leakage) enters the condenser to condense into water. The exhaust steam of the turbine is cooled in the condenser, causing its volume to sharply shrink and form a vacuum. This reduces the exhaust pressure of the turbine, increases the ideal enthalpy drop of the steam, and thus improves the thermal efficiency of the power plant system.

Condensing steam turbines are the most common type used in power plants and marine systems:
 
  • Thermal Power Plants: Typically integrated with boilers and generators to form power generation units, converting the chemical energy of fuel into electrical energy.
  • Marine Applications: Used as propulsion power plants to provide thrust for ships.

Our Advantages

Our company custom-designs and independently develops high-efficiency condensing steam turbine units, which are multi-stage small enthalpy drop impulse steam turbines. Different from the condensing steam turbine rotors of other manufacturers, the design has 2-4 more pressure stages; the design reduces the distance between flow stages, allowing more stages to be arranged in the flow part. The enthalpy drop of each stage is reduced, the flow diameter is decreased, and the blade height loss is significantly reduced. The flow part of the condensing steam turbine also optimizes the profile design of blades, nozzles, and diaphragm nozzles, effectively reducing all losses in the flow part of the condensing steam turbine, thereby improving the mechanical conversion efficiency of the condensing steam turbine and having a wide load adaptation capacity and overload capacity. This technology was selected into the 2019 China Industrial Energy Conservation Technology and Equipment Recommendation Catalog and Cases issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China.

Our company's main technical configuration is to optimize the blade profile of conventional units. Through thermal calculation and following the law of "conservation of energy", the design condition parameters of the original unit are matched and optimized with the actual operating conditions. Meanwhile, new partitions are matched. The purpose is to revise the flow area and improve the flow structure, so that the unit can do work effectively and smoothly, thereby achieving the goal of energy saving and efficiency improvement.

The high-efficiency labyrinth teeth steam seals independently designed by our company have the following characteristics:

  1. The labyrinth teeth are lengthened and densified. Based on the original 36 teeth, the density is increased to 45 teeth, and the tooth height is also increased.
  2. It has better sealing performance. Tests show that under the same steam seal clearance and pressure difference, the densified labyrinth seal reduces leakage losses by approximately 30%-50% compared to conventional labyrinth seals.
  3. It improves the moisture removal capacity in the blade passages of the wet steam region, reducing water erosion on the last few stages of moving blades.
  4. It enhances the vibration damping of the shaft, weakens shaft vibrations, and inhibits the formation of steam-induced vibrations.
  5. It effectively reduces steam leakage, allowing steam to perform work more efficiently, thereby improving the operational efficiency and safety index of the unit.
Product Service Life
All components of the condensing steam turbine adopt high-specification configurations to ensure safe operation of the unit. The designed service life of major components is not less than 30 years.
